2014 Red Ribbon – Love Yourself. Be Drug Free.
The Red Ribbon Campaign is a national initiative in the month of October that encourages youth to live healthy, drug-free lifestyles. According the Red Ribbon Campaign website (www.redribbon.org), the Red Ribbon celebration was first initiated in 1985. In response to Drug Enforcement Agent (DEA) Enrique Camerena, parents and youth started wearing the red ribbon as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness about the destruction caused by drugs in America.
Red Ribbon Week is a week schools and organizations dedicate to celebrating the Red Ribbon Campaign. During 2014, national Red Ribbon Week was October 23rd – October 31. The year’s theme was: Love Yourself. Be Drug Free.
